Being away from Thailand for more than 6 months made me realise there are a bunch of things I miss about Thailand. The last years I have been back for several months each year, but so far I have no plans to go back in 2017. That saying I am somehow sure I will end up there again anyway! LOL :)
There are so many luxury hotels in Bangkok that prices are very competitive and staying in one of those fantastic places won’t be as expensive as you might think. I could have easily made a list op top ten hotels in Bangkok, but I chose to write about the 4 places I recently stayed in the two best areas to stay in Bangkok.
To be honest I think there are too many cool places to see in Thailand and to see the most of the country I would suggest 4 weeks in Thailand. Though it is understandable that not everyone has the time and the money to go on a Thailand trip for 4 weeks. As there are so many different things to do I cannot just name the best Thailand itinerary. 14 Days is too short to see everything, but it is possible to squeeze in the highlights.
You only have a couple days on the island and dont know where to go out in Koh Tao? With this little guide I will give you some insider tips and the best restaurants in Koh Tao. I have lived on 'the Rock' for 4 months and visited 5 times, I think I know most places by now. You are spoilt for choice with upscale dining, local Thai cuisine, party places, live music and of course beach lounge bars, most of them all clustered around Sairee Beach. Koh Tao is developing more and more and new places are popping up all the time!
Island hopping Thailand is probably one of the most popular holiday packages in Asia for young people. Everyone once heard stories about the Full Moon party, crazy nights in Koh Phi Phi or the early mornings in Phuket, but it is not only about partying, there are way more things to do in Thailand than just getting drunk.
Why do you think people on Tripadvisor chose this as the most romantic hotel in the world 2015? No explanation needed, right? This picture says it all! As I was staying two months on the island, I was looking for the best Koh Tao hotels and I wanted to find some spots on the island that were not really well known yet to the big audience. Chekcing out some places to stay in Koh Tao I stumbled upon this incredibly luxurious boutique villa resort named ‘The Place’.
Of course scuba diving will always be the main tourist drag simply because it is one of the cheapest places in the world to make your first steps in breathing underwater. But there are more things to do in Koh Tao besides scuba diving! Since I have spent so much time in this little paradise I should reveal the list of the coolest Koh Tao things to do according to ‘locals’.
The Sofitel So Bangkok only opened in 2012. A fashionable and trendy hotel, located at the beginning of Sathorn Road in front of Lumpini Park, Bangkok’s largest green area. So Sofitel is all about art and style; chic but yet playful. It was the famous French designer Christian Lacroix who designed the hotel’s interior, the staff uniforms and the executive lounge.
In the last couple years I have visited ‘The Rock’ many times and it is great you guys are all asking me about this lovely little island. In this article I will explain how to get to Koh Tao in the most convenient way. Actually it is pretty straightforward, there is only one way to get to the island and that is taking a boat to Koh Tao, as their is no airport on the tiny hilly island. But from where do you take the boat?
By the time I got back to Bangkok last month I was in serious need of relaxation, and I was happy to be invited at one of the coolest boutique hotels in Bangkok: the Siam at Siam Design Hotel. It is one of Bangkok’s oldest family-owned hotels and lately completely refurbished. Siam at Siam Design Hotel is a boutique hotel with a contemporary, luxurious, and unique style right in the heart of Bangkok.
Bangkok tourism is booming and so is Co van Kessel. This late Dutchman started cycling in Bangkok over 30 years ago, taking tourists to the best places in Bangkok. First time I took the tour was in 2009 and since then the business grew a lot and they are offering multiple tours a day ranging from 3 to 9 hours long. I opted for the ‘Co Combo tour’, a 5-hour bike/boat tour through the remote areas of Bangkok.
Looking for a hidden gem in Thailand? Somewhere to fully enjoy your holiday and relax with your partner? Want to unwind from stressful corporate life but not in the standard places to visit in Thailand? Then this charming hotel might be something for you! The isolated Bamboo Huts Resort is one of the best places to stay in Koh Tao. Start your stress free holiday here. Located on the rocks of the southwest coast of the island all bungalows have a prima oceanfront location with magnificent ocean views. Because every bungalow is facing west great sunsets are guaranteed.
Leave Phuket behind you and explore the surrounding islands. Koh Yao Yai is one of my favorite islands out there. Still untouched and a place where island life is the number one feeling. Glow Elixir is a lovely 4* resort in a tranquil bay.
After two lovely nights in the Alisea Boutique Hotel I switched hotels and checked in at the Aonang Cliff Beach Resort on the other side of the town. The hotel arranged a pick-up and at 10.30am sharp there was an air-conditioned mini van waiting outside the hotel to escort me to my new hotel.
After 7 years I decided to go back to the picturesque town of Ao Nang in the Krabi province in Thailand. I remembered the lively streets, a lovely boulevard and the amazing food culture and was eager to go back. On top of that finding a place to stay ended in 5-night collaboration with the Alisea Boutique Hotel and the Ao Nang Cliff Beach Resort.
The main reason I love to travel in Asia is because it is affordable and the value for money is the best in the world. I have managed to stay on the road for 4 years without working a single day, so I can understand people keep on asking me the same question over and over again. How do you afford to travel? Then I explain them, traveling does not have to be expensive. So their next question always is: how much does a trip to Thailand cost for example…
Probably one of the most popular countries in the world for travel yet still everyone is having doubts about the safety situation in this lovely country. With so many travellers coming back home every year telling their friends about their island hopping adventures in the South or their motorbike tours in the North I would suggest word of mouth would do its job, right? The majority of these people come home with great memories, but there are also those stories in the media about the Koh Tao murders and disappearing people in Bangkok. So how safe is Thailand?
Unfortunately another tragic accident occurred on the island recently with a British traveller found death in a hotel pool. There are a lot of rumors going around but so far no one really knows what happened. Fact is that they found another dead body, one of the many tourist deaths in Thailand per year. Koh Tao was already struggling with a very bad reputation after the Koh Tao murders in September 2014 when a British couple was killed and left behind on Sairee Beach, the most popular spot on the island.
The Layana Resort & Spa is consistently voted among the best hotels in Thailand and it was no wonder that I was really pleased and excited to spend a couple nights in this little gem. Talking to other guests we all wondered why the resort is not called a retreat. It is such a peaceful and rejuvenating place that the addition of the word retreat wouldn’t be misplaced. If you Google ‘Thailand adults only resorts’, the Layana Koh Lanta will come up first and after experiencing this top-notch luxurious retreat I can understand that this place ranks number 1 in many lists.
What is the best country to travel? What is the best country for food? Where can you find the best beaches in the world? Which was the worst country to travel? What is the cheapest country to travel and which is the most expensive one?
Are you imagining about your first big trip? The first time overseas with your friends or even more adventurous, you are thinking about going alone? Many people dream about it, still not everyone has enough courage. A trip like this can be life changing and therefore I would recommend everyone to try it at least once. Let me help you planning a trip to Thailand.
Renting a motorbike in Koh Tao is a must if you want to see the hidden gems of the island. Though at the same time this island is very infamous for its motorbike scams. So what to do? Miss the cool spots? Or take a leap of faith and go for it?
In June 2016 after visiting Thailnd for more than 10 times I finally made it to Koh Lanta. I was invited to come and review Crown Lanta Resort & Spa and give my opinion about their resort.
The resort is situated on the tip of a tiny peninsula in the North of the island. Tucked away from the mass tourism of the popular East side of Koh Lanta, the Crown Lanta Resort and Spa has a fabulous location.
Go off the beaten path in Thailand and check in to the Rayong Marriott Resort & Spa, the number one hotel in Rayong.
Rayong is a not yet discovered region by mass tourism not far away from the immense popular beach destination Pataya. Travelling East from Bangkok never really appealed to me, but when I was invited by the Rayong Marriott I thought lets just wing it. Actually I had never heard the region. Exploring new territories in Thailand was great and after I have been to Marriott Rayong I can now say that it is totally worth it visiting this undiscovered region of Thailand.
Always wanted to know where your favourite pop idols are celebrating their holiday? I have been staying in the most amazing hotels, but for most celebrities that is just too ordinary. Apparently they rent amazing villas, secluded places where they can’t be seen and where they can do whatever they want behind closed doors. Rihanna was one those celebrities that rented Samsara Phuket and I got to stay in the exact same villa!
SO Sofitel Hua Hin is a modern and trendy beach resort where design meets the white sand in the Gulf of Thailand. A perfect retreat for hipsters and trendsetters looking to escape bustling Bangkok. It is where the SO concept is taken to the beach in Hua Hin.
After a little research you know which are the best islands to visit in Thailand and the most appealing to you but now you are stuck making an island hopping Thailand itinerary. I admit it is not easy to decide how long to stay on each island, but we all want a rough schedule, right?
When people ask me about the best country I have traveled to I don’t name either Thailand or Philippines. It is really hard to compare countries in the first place as all of them have its own charm, but I always come forward with a list of 5 amazing countries in where I had fantastic adventures. As I traveled extensively through The Philippines and Thailand and created absolutely fantastic memories in both countries I always add them as number 6 and 7. What I actually mean is like it goes without saying that these are my favourites! ;)
Finding the best beach in Thailand can be a hard job. With so many beautiful places in the Land of Smiles you will have to spend months on a Thailand island hopping adventure to find the best beach. But those who go around will for sure find a place to their likings. Around Krabi there are many islands, but may be the best beach in Krabi is not even located on an island...
Almost every tourist that travels to Thailand wants to buy a Thai SIM card, but which one? If you did not gather some information before your trip you are relying on the sales guys at the airport. Can you trust them? Nope! So here is your guide to what is the best Thai SIM card for travellers.
Checking in to a resort was like changing office for me while travelling in Asia, definitely after I just did a city hotel tour in Singapore where I stayed in 6 different hotels in 2 weeks. I landed at Phuket International Airport and made my way to Sri Panwa where I was about to stay a couple days and it was one of those places I definitely want to go back some day… WOW!
Island hopping Thailand is probably the most popular first big trip for young travellers and I can totally understand why! Some may say the islands are overcrowded and the authentic Thai lifestyle is gone. I am the last one to deny this as it definitely changed a lot over the years but I am guilty as well. A Thailand island Hopping adventure is always calling and I have never been able to say no to its beauty and the amazing travel vibe on every trip to the islands in Thailand.
Driving a motorbike in Thailand is nothing like back home. There are different rules, road conditions can be bad, it looks chaotic and there are a lot of crazy tourists on the road that think they are TripleX. Be careful, drive safely!
The Fool Moon Parties in Thailand got hyped so much through Social Media that it has problems satisfying the expectations of the tourists. Thousands of youngsters from all over the world are still heading to Koh Phangan to go completely wild on the famous beach of Haad Rin. The entire bay will be filled with crazy party people that dance the night away.
The Thai capital can be intimidating at first, but give it a chance and you will seriously love it. There are so many cool things to do in Bangkok that it is not hard to tell you where to go and what to do. But to name you the best things to do in Bangkok is a little harder. Some are so standard and touristy that you just have to tick them off regardless. If you are going to Paris you will also take a look at the Eiffel Tower, right? To me the city is more than just the Bangkok tourist attractions, I also like to walk around and enjoy the amazing street life. To me this city is more like an experience!
Lately I travelled through the Krabi Province in Thailand and aI was invited to the Aonang Cliff Beach Resort. As part of their marketing campaign we were invited to check out their new hotel nestled high above the lovely beach town of Ao Nang. Stunning views from my bed, a hot tub on the balcony, an amazing buffet breakfast and the best infinity pool in Ao Nang were all included. Click here to read to complette review of this amazing hotel.
The time that this little island was solely a diving paradise is long gone! Just like any other popular island in Thailand many tourists and travelers are finding its way to this tiny little nirvana in the Gulf of Thailand. Nowadays not only for the amazing underwater world anymore: hiking to an amazing Koh Tao viewpoint is getting more and more popular.
Although I had 3 amazing days in Koh Samui I can’t wait to go home! Yes, this is how I feel when I am boarding a boat to Koh Tao. Right now I am on the Lompraya high-speed ferry that takes me from Koh Samui to Koh Tao in 2 hours for $17. It was my 3th time visiting Koh Samui, I really like it, but what I learned in 3 days Samui? I really adore Koh Tao, by far my favorite island of the Thai east coast!
Things are changing in Koh Tao. Where it has always been an exclusive divers paradise, more and more people make the trip to the island not only for the diving. It still is one of the cheapest places in the world to get your Open Water certification and loads of young adventurers do so, but it is not only those travelers that take a boat to Koh Tao. An increasingly amount of islands hoppers come to experience the laid-back vibe, to snorkel in the stunning remote bays, party on the beach or just chill out and watch incredible sunsets.
