Recently I spent about two months in and around Bali and stumbled upon an surprisingly quiet oasis called The Chedi Club Tanah Gajah. I have been visiting Ubud many times, but never heard about this resort before, but I am happy I got invited to stay at this beautiful place lately as part of my 'honeymoon in Bali'.
As Ubud is getting busier and busier with each time I visit this once laid-back yoga hub in central Bali I recommend you finding Ubud accommodation where you can escape to busy citylife. Ubud has always been the place where you can kick back and read a book overlooking the rice fields. When you walk around the center of Ubud nowadays that ideal picture is long gone. Villas at The Chedi Club Ubud
This once private property has been turned into a peaceful resort that houses only 20 villas on 50.000 square meter so you can imagine why I call this place: peaceful, rejuvenating and exclusive. All the villas are private and all have an outdoor bathroom, some come with a private pool. The charming outdoor bathtubs are perfect to surprise your lover with a romantic bath and your private butler is more than happy to organize these things for you.
Outstanding service levels
Yes all villas come with a private butler that is stand-by 24 hours. The Chedi Club Tanah Gajah does not charge a single dollar for the mini bar, which I think is grest service, cause why do hotels want to make a couple dollars on a can of coke when it hardly cost anything to provide your guests excellent service by offering it for free. As a cherry on the cake the mini bar includes ice cold Bintangs and a bottle of Whiskey, Vodka and Gin. The only thing I can complain about is that this was another reason to drink alcohol! ;) And just when you think this is it, this great Ubud resort throws in another reason to come to spend your night here: a complimentary high tea.
Facilities Chedi Club Tanah Gajah
The resort is huge and upon arrival I was escorted to my room in a buggy. I love resorts with buggies as that means the grounds are vast. The Chedi Club Ubud has only 20 private villas and the rest is open terrain for all guests. Of course they have a swimming pool, but they also have their own temple, a wellness center, a restaurant, several huge ponds with swans, several shrines, a tennis court and a gym. But the best thing about this luxury hotel in Ubud is that the surrounding rice fields are all owned by the hotel and this makes this place the ultimate spot in Ubud to get away from the bustling life outside the resort. If you want to walk around the rice fields, your butler is more than happy to give you a private tour.
Private Kecak Dance
Two times per week The Chedi Club host their own Kecak Dance. This is one of the traditional dances in Bali and free for all guests. Believe me this is a must do! I like these cultural things, but after 10 minutes I am mostly done with it, but not with this phenomenon. The Kecak Dance is one of the most interesting things to witness and when it is preformed privately for only a handful hotel guests it is even more amazing.
This exact same ritual is also preformed at the Uluwatu Temple, where I have been as well, but nothing comes close to the private show we were offered at The Chedi Club in Ubud. Honestly this was a great performance and I would love to see it again some day!
Restaurant
The restaurant is obviously strategically placed overlooking the rice fields and serves delicious local food but a real treat is their a la carte breakfast! You can order what you want and it will be freshly made for you.
