SO Sofitel Hua Hin is located directly on the beach of Cha Am. It is Thailand’s longest white sand beach and regarded as the best beach in Hua Hin. Situated about 20km out of Hua Hin city center it is a very quiet and chilled beach where you can truly come at ease. Because of its secluded location there are hardly any local visitors to the beachfront, which creates the sense of having your own private beach. The ocean is generally pretty calm and looks often like a swimming pool.

It is about 200km outside of Bangkok and easily accessible by highway. From Cha Am to Bangkok the hotel offers a shuttle service. There is also a bus from Bangkok to Cha Am and mini vans that service this location. They leave from the Victory Monument in Bangkok and cost 170THB.

Check-in So Sofitel Hua
There is little left for imagination when you walk up to the reception as you facing the biggest marble staircase in Thailand that leads up to the reception. This is after you are welcomed by a giant rabbit that symbolically asks you to hand in the time by holding a massive clock. Forget about the time, all you have to think about upon entering the resort is to enjoy your days to the max. A great motto!
Registering was done in So Sofitel style: you get a nice seat, a refreshing towel, Wi-Fi access and their signature drink which was a home made tea made of different types of flowers.
Rooms at the So Sofitel Hua Hin
Just like the SO concept in Bangkok this hotel also offers different types of rooms. At the SO Sofitel Hua Hin they are classified under the SO Arty style and the SO Nature style. I chose a SO Arty style room and for sure liked the detailed interior. My room was super spacious and came with a living area and a working space.
Apart from the complimentary in-room private bar, high speed Wi-Fi and the latest cutting-edge technology, the best room feature for me was the majestic open rain shower. I have never seen such a huge open rain shower and even my Snapchat followers all raved about it. The water falls down from 4 meters high and if this is not your thing you can always opt for the big hot tub next to it.
Facilities at the So Sofitel Hua Hin
The So Sofitel offers a long list of facilities that suits a 5-star resort. They advertise with having two pools, but I came across 3 pools. There is one adult-only pool, which is tucked away in the middle of the resort and is not located on the beach, though extremely quiet. Next to it you will find the Spa and a little gym.
Furthermore there is the main resort pool and a small pool at the beach bar for a refreshing dip while drinking an ice-cold beer. Sunrises are exceptionally great at the resort pool with perfect reflections. I should have taken a timelapse here, though I managed to get a great shot anyway I think.
Restaurant White Oven
During my stay I was a frequent visitor of the White Oven restaurant. Although I liked to order some bites at the Beach Society Bar, the food at White Oven was simply irresistible. I especially loved the local style stuffed omelette and the soft shell crab. The lofty restaurant is also the place where breakfast is served. If you have been in Thailand before you know that buffet breakfast in this country is always a feast. For sure you will come nothing short at the 5 star buffet breakfast of So Sofitel Hua Hin.
Beach Party So Sofitel Hua Hin
Every first Saturday of the month the hotel organises a beach party. It will be the place to be seen in the future for sure. I was only at the second So Beach Party ever and it was already a blast and pretty busy in the end. What to do in Cha Am or what to do in Hua Hin just became an easy to answer question with the introduction of this amazing party. Beautiful people, an amazing location and setting, delicious (sea)food, some great tunes and moderate prices; a professional organised party that is an added value for the region and well worth travelling from Bangkok!
