HOKA is known as one of the best running shoes available. However, they recently introduced a new model aimed at hiking. A new world for HOKA. We are always interested in good and decent hiking shoes. Especially when well-known brands such as HOKA take this step.
We had the opportunity to test the new HOKA Skyline Float X this summer. We went on some nice hikes in the Dolomites, in Austria and lately took them on our trip to Finland, where we extensively tested these new HOKA's.
About HOKA
HOKA was founded in 2009 in the French Alps. Two athletes wanted to design a running shoe that would make running downhill feel like flying. Their uniquely designed shoe quickly caught the eye of elite ultramarathon runners and it didn't take long for the shoe and the brand HOKA to become popular.
The owner's original goal was to improve endurance race times by designing a shoe that would allow you to go downhill faster. As a result, they accidentally reinvented the running shoe.

This model is designed for hikers, not for runners. The Skyline Float X is fast on the trails and smooth on the street. The new Skyline Float X has an unmistakable crossover look. It brings together responsive cushioning and robust propulsion in one hybrid hiking shoe. A model for every adventure with plant elements from top to bottom. Plant elements? Yes, absolutely! They used a soy-based insole, a 30% sugar cane midsole among other things.

Our experiences with the HOKA Skyline Float X
We have used these new HOKA hiking shoes on multiple hikes last summer. We used them on all sorts of surfaces. In the mountains, in the forests, on the streets, everywhere. I'll get straight to the point, I really love these shoes! I'm a true outdoor addict and love to hike and walk. I know from experience how important it is to have good walking shoes. It really makes a big difference. Of course, I was hesitant with these HOKAs at first, because they are mainly known as a running shoe brand. Running shoes and hiking shoes are really different.
I find these shoes really strong and great, especially in the mountains and forests. The cushioned midsole really makes you feel like you're walking on clouds. Every step you take lands very softly and feels like you slightly bounce back. The smooth movement of the foot also contributes to optimal wearing comfort. The shoe offers a lot of grip on uneven terrain. So in the mountains and forests this is highly recommended. You feel much more confident.
It's a well-designed and well-built hiking shoe. It is a lightweight shoe, super soft but still protective and supportive.
This shoe can very easily compete with a hiking shoe from one of the many established hiking brands. In fact, I think this shoe brings me more comfort, grip and convenience than some traditional hiking boots.
